Marker Text | A native of Germany, Fred Beck (1864-1951) came to San Angelo in 1886 and bought this homesite in 1889. By 1892 he had opened his own butcher shop. Beck hired noted architect Oscar Ruffini to design this home in 1912, after a house built here in 1902 was destroyed by fire. An adaptation of a Queen Anne style cottage and built of locally-made brick, the house features a pyramidal roof, central entry, wraparound porch, and low gabled dormers.
